Children, Youth & Schools

We offer activities and build systems that help our children and youth feel stronger, happier, and healthier – both at school and at home.

Developmental Screenings

We offer developmental screenings that can help identify learning challenges which, if left undiagnosed, might otherwise lead to setbacks in school. If you would like more information please call (707) 965-5010

Early Learning Programs

Niños Activos (Active Kids) Playgroups are for parents/caregivers and their children ages 2-5. We coordinate developmentally appropriate socialization and learning playgroups twice a week in Calistoga and St. Helena.

Raising A Reader is an evidence-based early literacy program that helps children discover a love of reading. Offered to young children and their families in up valley through our early childhood programs, we use Raising A Reader bright red bookbags to send home a rotation of approximately 100 high quality, culturally diverse children’s books per year, to be shared with young readers. Early literacy parent/child activities are led by family center staff at various locations.

Summer Learning

Summer Bridge for incoming kindergarteners – We work with Calistoga Joint Unified School District to offer comprehensive school readiness programs over the summer for incoming kindergarten children and their parents. If you have an incoming kindergarten child in one of these communities, please contact us for more information.

Student Counseling

We connect students to mental health resources through our partnership with Mentis. Mental health services are available for any student in the district (CJUSD) in need of extra supports this year. Mentis will be providing these services to students of all grade levels (K-12). Services will be offered both in person and via telehealth depending on the needs of the student and availability of the therapist.

Youth Mentoring

CLARO/CLARA Youth Mentoring Programs We offer culturally-based youth development activities through weekly group sessions led by positive role models in both Calistoga and St. Helena. [Click here for flyer]

Youth Diversion program – We work closely with local law enforcement, school officials and associated agencies to facilitate the youth diversion program – a referral based alternative to youth being processed into the juvenile court and probation system. Students in the program participate in counseling, education, 40 hours of community service, consequences (i.e. restitution to victims), behavior modification, and positive activities and lifestyle choices in lieu of being processed into the juvenile court and probation system.
