Holiday Assistance Program
The UpValley Family Centers Holiday Assistance Program serves individuals and families who reside in Napa County north of Yountville.
El Programa de Asistencia para las Fiestas Navideñas de UpValley Family Centers sirve a individuos y familias que residen en el condado de Napa al norte de Yountville.
Winter is always a tough time for workers in Napa’s wine and hospitality industry: as harvest comes to an end, work hours and jobs dry up. Our annual Holiday Assistance Program brings some light to this dark season every year, providing families with groceries for a festive holiday meal, toys for their kids, and gift cards to purchase household necessities – like winter coats and warm blankets.
Holiday cheer is more needed in 2020 than ever before – and we’re asking for your help to make it happen. Our goal is to raise $40,000 by Giving Tuesday, December 2, so that we can provide 400 families with holiday cheer.
Adult education opens doors to stable employment and other opportunities. The UpValley Family Centers and its partners help students succeed by providing evening classes, self-paced learning options, and free childcare during class hours.
Free ESL Classes
English as a Second Language classes at beginning and intermediate levels are offered in Calistoga and St. Helena in partnership with Napa Valley Community College.
In partnership with the Mexican Government and the Napa Valley Farmworker Foundation, we offer Plaza Comunitaria, adult classes in Spanish language literacy, basic education and ESL classes. These are designed for those who desire a better education for better opportunities, and may achieve basic and secondary education certificates. Accredited by the Mexican Secretary of Public Education.
These classes allow adults who immigrated to the U.S. to work towards higher levels of education based on their last grade attended. Upon completion of each grade level, students receive recognition of completion from the Mexican Consulate. Classes are offered in Spanish with a certified teacher. All levels are welcome, elementary, middle and high school levels. GED classes are also offered. Child care is provided. This program is offered in Calistoga, and is open to all adults interested in the program.
Workforce Training / Building & Construction Trades Program
We partnered with the Napa Valley Community Foundation, Napa Valley College, On the Move, and the Calistoga Joint Unified School District to pilot a Building & Construction Trades program that trains and certifies participants for employment in a stable and in-demand industry.
Throughout the program participants received support from a case manager to make sure they are set up to succeed, and any student in need received financial aid. Upon graduation, students received an official certificate and a pair of steel-toed boots along with other incentives to help them start their new career path.
