The UpValley Family Centers of Napa County are the result of a merger between the Calistoga Family Center and the St. Helena Family Center. Our newly combined organization became official in February of 2014. The history of both centers is noted below.
In 1999, Calistoga Family Center was created by a team of educators and community members who believed healthy families are the foundation of a strong community. The family center began as the result of a Healthy Start grant to the Calistoga Joint Unified School District. Over time, the Calistoga Family Center became an independent nonprofit organization, keeping strong ties with the school district and locating its main office on the campus of the Calistoga Elementary School.
The St. Helena Family Center was founded in 2005 by a group of committed volunteers who recognized that healthy families are a crucial component of a strong community. These individuals saw the success of the Calistoga Family Center and realized their community needed a similar support system. Located in a house on Spring Street, the St. Helena Family Center began providing services in a welcome and culturally relevant environment, acting as a community hub to help people help themselves.
