Child Development Services

Parents are their child’s first teacher and essential advocate. We support parents/caregivers in this important role, offering parent/child playgroups, early literacy programs, positive discipline classes, nutrition classes and more.

Niños Activos (Active Kids) Playgroups Niños Activos (Active Kids) Playgroups are for parents/caregivers and their children ages 2-5. We coordinate developmentally appropriate socialization and learning playgroups twice a week in Calistoga and St. Helena. Schedules can be found on our online calendar.

Raising A Reader is an evidence-based early literacy program that helps children discover a love of reading. Offered to young children and their families in up valley through our early childhood programs, we use Raising A Reader bright red bookbags to send home a rotation of approximately 100 high quality, culturally diverse children’s books per year, to be shared with young readers. Early literacy parent/child activities are led by family center staff at various locations.

Summer Bridge for incoming kindergarteners We work with Calistoga Joint Unified School District to offer comprehensive school readiness programs over the summer for incoming kindergarten children and their parents. If you have an incoming kindergarten child in one of these communities, please contact us for more information.

Youth Development Services Through partnerships with local schools, we offer youth services that include mentoring, drug/alcohol counseling, leadership development and more.

CLARO/CLARA Youth Mentoring Programs We offer culturally-based youth development activities through weekly group sessions led by positive role models in both Calistoga and St. Helena. Click here for flyer

Adult and Parent Education Services

We offer an array of adult education classes in our upvalley communities, in collaboration with other service organizations.

Plaza Comunitaria These classes allow adults who immigrated to the U.S. to work towards higher levels of education based on their last grade attended. Upon completion of each grade level, students receive recognition of completion from the Mexican Consulate. Classes are offered in Spanish with a certified teacher. All levels are welcome, elementary, middle and high school levels. GED classes are also offered. Child care is provided. Free ESL Classes English as a Second Language classes at beginning and intermediate levels are offered in Calistoga and St. Helena. Please visit our online calendar for schedule of classes or click here for flyer.

Citizenship Classes UpValley Family Centers offers citizenship classes to individuals who are applying for U.S. citizenship. If you are interested, please contact us for the schedule.

Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) UpValley Family Centers offers this proven parenting program for parents of children ages 2-12. Triple P increases parenting skills and parenting confidence by engaging, encouraging and empowering families to address common child and adolescent social, emotional and behavioral problems.
