ABOUT US

Our Mission

UpValley Family Centers provides guidance, support and resources in the community, in the home and for the individual, so that everyone can achieve a better life.

Our Vision

We envision that through healthy relationships and networks of support, all people are safe, valued and prepared to create the future they want for themselves, their families and their community.

We believe that every individual has equal value in our community and deserves the opportunity to pursue their dreams.

The UpValley Family Centers helps people acquire knowledge, skills, and resources and offers support in times of crisis. We work alongside community members and partner organizations to address systemic inequities and to create an environment for action and solutions.

We operate family resource centers in Calistoga and St. Helena – resource hubs for those who live, work, and attend school in the northern, rural region of Napa County, including Angwin, Deer Park, Pope Valley, Oakville, Rutherford, Lake Berryessa, and the rural areas bordering Sonoma and Lake Counties.

Every day we inform, connect, support, and partner with individuals and families to address challenges and advance their goals — from strengthening financial stability that prevents housing insecurity, to increasing literacy skills, to becoming US citizens, to fostering leadership that results in school and community change.

UVFC is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization. Our Federal tax ID is 80-0023012

Everything we do is guided by our values: trust, dignity, respect and cultural sensitivity, equity, and collaborative action.

Our History

The UpValley Family Centers of Napa County are the result of a merger between the Calistoga Family Center and the St. Helena Family Center. Our newly combined organization became official in February of 2014. The history of both centers is noted below.

In 1999, Calistoga Family Center was created by a team of educators and community members who believed healthy families are the foundation of a strong community. The family center began as the result of a Healthy Start grant to the Calistoga Joint Unified School District. Over time, the Calistoga Family Center became an independent nonprofit organization, keeping strong ties with the school district and locating its main office on the campus of the Calistoga Elementary School.

The St. Helena Family Center was founded in 2005 by a group of committed volunteers who recognized that healthy families are a crucial component of a strong community. These individuals saw the success of the Calistoga Family Center and realized their community needed a similar support system. Located in a house on Spring Street, the St. Helena Family Center began providing services in a welcome and culturally relevant environment, acting as a community hub to help people help themselves.
